On 14 September 2018, KBA Directors, Darren Brunton and Brendan Kearns received the prestigious 2018 Historical Diving Society Leonard Greenstone Award from the Executive Director of The Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI), Philip Newsum on behalf of the Historical Diving Society (HDS) USA in London, United Kingdom at the Diving Industry Work Group (DIWG). This followed the announcement made by HDS in June 2018.

Leslie Leaney, Chairman of Historical Diving Society USA Awards Committee commented, “Leonard was a fantastic man and he would be very happy with the standards that KB Associates Group has established throughout the international community.”

“I am honoured to present the Leonard Greenstone Award on behalf of the Historical Diving Society USA.  KB Associates is recognised globally for its positive impact on commercial diving personnel training.  The scope of training which the company offers is unparalleled by any other training establishment.  Moreover, KB Associates has the recognition and endorsement of operators, regulators, contractors, as well as other industry stakeholders. What Darren, Brendan, and the team at KB Associates has done more than makes them deserving of this award for their impact and excellence in training within the commercial diving industry,” said Philip Newsum, Executive Director of Association of Diving Contractors International (ACDI) at the awards ceremony.

The first Leonard Greenstone Award for excellence in the training of commercial divers was awarded in 1974. This is the first time the Award has been presented to a company, and presented outside the United States.

Darren Brunton, Managing Director of KBA commented, “We want to thank everyone who has supported us over the past 16 years that has enabled KB Associates to surpass the standards we had set out to achieve, and now, to be honoured with this award. It is a historical milestone for us. We want to thank the Historical Diving Society USA for nominating and recognising what we do. We will continue to collaborate with individuals and companies to contribute globally to the industry’s safety standards, especially in our core specialties of commercial diving safety, consultancy and training. We are humbled and honoured to receive this recognition, while elated that our work as a team has been recognised. KBA will continue in the pursuit of ‘MAKING A DIFFERENCE’ and uphold the Leonard Greenstone motto that `everyone deserves a second chance’, in providing training and career opportunities for commercial divers. We will also work diligently in the world of commercial diving safety to ensure that the reputation of Leonard Greenstone and its award is maintained to the highest level of professionalism and integrity.”
